Chez Bernard in Cap Brun - Toulon

A delightful cove at Cap Brun provides the setting for 'Chez Bernard', a simple, unpretentious eatery in a truly spectacular location. Think crystal clear azure water and nostalgic beachscene views: the best of the Cote D'Azure and then some.... The absence of champagne popping Oligarchs and their hangers on add significantly to the charm of this rare gem.

Chez Bernard's menu is simple but entirely appropriate. Grilled fish, shellfish and local fresh produce dominate. We opted for roasted gambas with a tomato salad presented in the form of a timbale (unnecessary), followed by grilled wild seabass for two scented with fennel:  a classic preparation delivered with the skill and precision of a kitchen that cares. Washed down with crisp, ice cold rose from a nearby domaine and views to die for and we quickly melted into the blissful realization that Chez B ticked every box you could hopefully wish for for a summertime lunch. Perfect.

PS: most diners opted for the "menu du jour", a snip at 28 euros for three courses. But neversaynever prefers to roll off piste.....
